SOME FACTS ABOUT THE WATER CRISIS
- Nearly 1 billion people around the world do not have access to clean drinking water.
- Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of all sickness and disease, and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.
- Of the 42,000 deaths that occur every week from unsafe water and a lack of basic sanitation, 90% are children under 5 years old
- Providing clean water is the 1st step to bringing a village out of extreme poverty. Once a community has clean water, the kids can go to school, the adults can work and produce income, and less people will get sick and go to the hospital.
